OK, I get a lot of backlash about my opinion on this topic, but I am sticking to my guns. Resumes written in 3rd person are just plain bizarre. When I begin to read it, I can’t help but think to myself, “Who did this person hire to write their resume?” “Who am I talking to?” “Will this person TALK in the 3rd person if I invite them for an interview?”
Your resume is your first opportunity to introduce yourself to a company. The last thing you want to do is confuse them, or put a weird taste in their mouth about you. Look at writing your resume as your introductory monologue to the recruiter about why they should be spending more time with you. If you had the opportunity to submit a two minute introductory video to a company for a job, would you speak in the 3rd person? Why would the rules be different for a resume? It’s essentially the same thing.
Bottom line is, resumes written in the 3rd person make you seem pompous or clueless. If you have no problem with presenting yourself as either one of those, then keep your strange resume and good luck out there.
